5 places I love in Saint Lucia | Travel
When I traveled to Saint Lucia for the first time to photograph Honorine and Bradley’s destination wedding, we spent a few hours touring the island. It was my first time shooting a wedding in the Caribbean so I planned to go a few days early to get familiar with the resort where the wedding was taking place. Although I was really excited, I was also nervous at the same time so planning to go ahead of time really gave me some peace of mind. I wasn’t expecting to have the opportunity to tour the island because my main reason for being there was to work with THIS fab couple. I was focused man! Luckily, Andre, my favorite travel buddy / husband came along, so I actually got to venture out more than I would have if I was alone.
When we landed at the airport, near Castries, we were welcomed by a friendly taxi driver who offered to take us to our resort. We stayed on Reduit Beach at the Bay Garden Beach Resort and on the way there we were pleasantly surprised to learn that our friend Stephen was willing to take us on a quick tour of the island the very next day. We were on a tight schedule, because I was shooting some engagement photos later that day, but he assured us that it would only be a few hours and well worth the time. Looking back, I am so glad we did it.
Hopefully my favorite images from the various stops we made around the island will inspire you to go to St. Lucia and see it all for yourself. The photos of my day trip really do speak for themselves, but I will say that the feeling of the country is different than the others I’ve been to. It’s a special place – a small island with lots of heart. If you ever get a chance to head there, be sure to let me know so that I can pass on Stephen’s info. He was the perfect tour guide! He practically knew everyone on the island – it was pretty awesome. Now let me share, my favorite spots on the trip along with some pictures!
1. Castries the Capital
We drove through the capital and the largest city in Saint Lucia. It was quick, but I loved seeing the people and then heading to the lookout point. It was beautiful.
2. Diamond Botanical Gardens
This place is beautiful. It’s a natural paradise. We walked around and then enjoyed the waterfall and the mineral baths which has healing properties. Definitely a favorite.
3. Diamond Falls
So I seriously love this place. The waterfalls are a part of the botanical gardens. We spent at least a couple hours just hanging out. And apparently the rocks that we were standing on was dangerous and strictly prohibited. By the time we found out, we already got some awesome photos and we made it out alive.
4. Soufriere – Sulphur Springs Volcano
Yes. You read correctly. Saint Lucia has the Caribbean’s only drive in volcano. We were standing right in the middle of it! Andre remembered some geology and explained that we were in a caldera – a type of volcano that has collapsed on itself. You can also bathe in the warm sulphuric pools for a mud bath experience.
5. Pitons
One of our last stops was the lookout over Soufriere where these two mountain points are on perfect display. I could stare at them forever.
