Indoor Engagement Shoot Locations
Happy Tuesday! This may be the beginning of a Tuesday Tips series!
I love the way the wintry weather can look in an engagement shoot. That’s part of the reason why I provided these few tips on winter photo shoots a couple weeks ago. But as the temperature continues to drop, it’s getting harder to deal with the elements. So today I’m sharing a few ideas on indoor engagement shoot locations that allow for a more comfortable setting.
These ideas work great for other portrait sessions as well! Keep in mind that they may require a little more research than some outdoor locations because permission may be necessary to ensure a smooth session.
Your Home
One place you definitely won’t need a permit. Taking photos in the comfort of your own home is always a super idea.
Hotel Suite
Booking a hotel suite provides the same comfort as being at home. Having a room in the hotel could open up other opportunities to use the hotel’s lobby, lounge, bar, or meeting rooms. Sometimes sending a note to the event manager asking to use their space may also be an option. A great example is Hotel Ocho in Toronto.
Museum or Art Gallery
For the admirers of fine art and history, a museum or art gallery is a fantastic idea. I suggest contacting the museum in advance to make sure you’ll be permitted to take photos there. For Diane and Kwaku‘s engagement session back in April, we shot at the Museum of Nature in Ottawa.
Some other great ideas include:
- Local Coffee Shop or Diner
- Theatre
- Public Library
- Botanical Gardens
- University Campus Buildings
- Train Station
- Abandoned warehouses
