All the athletes competing at the 2012 Olympics in London seem to possess incredible strength and determination that is absolutely admirable. Years of preparation for a shot at winning a medal for their countries. Imagine preparing that long for an opportunity that seems so fleeting.
Like most, Usain Bolt has caught my attention, not very surprising since he’s the fastest man in the world. But what I find most admirable about the double gold medal champion is his ability to set a goal, achieve it, AND inspire others in the process. He wanted to win gold medals in both the 100m and the 200m races. He believed it. And with solid training he did just that. I’m positive that his greatness rubbed off on his teammates Yohan Blake and Warren Weir resulting in their silver and bronze medals. Living a champion’s lifestyle is a little easier when you have one on your team, helping you along the way.
Reminds me of my grand-mother’s words… Show me your friends, and I’ll tell you who you are. Wasn’t sure what it meant when I was 10, but this saying seems so fitting right about now. I may not have Bolt as a teammate or friend, but he has helped me appreciate the family and friends I have that inspire me to be great every day.
Jamaica and the world is so proud of you, Usain and Team Jamaica! And since every post is better with a photo. Here’s a special image I took of my dear cousin, who will be starting her first year of university and competing on their cross-country team in the fall. Greatness all around!
