FEARLESS Friday: Meet Aisha “Ebony” Bennett

I am so excited to have the beautiful and gifted Aisha Ebony on today’s Fearless Friday! As a hair stylist, she makes people look and feel like a million bucks. I’m honored to have met her through one of my brides and I appreciate the words of wisdom she has shared in today’s post. Enjoy! 

Tell us about what you do?

I’d like to think I make women feel beautiful by using their hair to enhance what’s already there. You can come into my chair with no makeup and sweat pant on, when our meeting is through you’ll feel and look like the world is your red carpet. It makes me feel good to see how some women react when there hair is done and their confidence is up, sweatpants and all.

How did you get started doing it – what inspired you?

I can’t say i was ever inspired to do hair, it came too natural for me. I started braiding hair when I was 11, I was doing hair while baby sitting at the same time. From that point onwards I was always working in a hair salon, no matter what job I had. Before I realized this was something I was really passionate about.

What are some ways you overcome adversity or fear?

All prayer! No matter how short the prayer is. My gifts come from God. His word says he hasn’t given me the spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind, It’s challenging at times, but, when you feed your mind with faith you don’t have that the energy to give to negativity and doubt, I stand in that belief . I can be open and say that the responsibility that comes with success scared me and the notion of attempting to live your life to it’s full potential is scary because you really don’t know who you are going to fully become; or what it’s going to be like until you get there, so to speak. Although I still have yet to attain these things, I just decided that no matter what I have to try and do my best, look my best and and remain my best through rise and fall. In the end it will be worth it.

Any advice for others that want to follow on a similar path?

Be honest with yourself about what you’re worth so you don’t sell yourself short. Maintain good hair and business practices from the beginning and learn how to do things right the first time; you could be an amazing stylist all you want, but if you mess up peoples hair and have bad customer service you will lose clients, your reputation is everything. Keep learning, pray often, work smart and no matter what never give up.

Name your 3 key sources of inspiration and how they help you create or stay positive.

My mommy and son. They keep me slightly insane so my creative juices are always flowing, they’ve loved and supported me in anything I pursued.

My clients. Every head of hair that sits in my chair in now an inspiration, another blank canvas that I can create with.

My family. Even though we don’t pick them, they’ve allowed me to grow into who I needed to be for them and have always loved me for who I am good or bratty.
