A beautiful destination wedding! It’s always very special for me when I get to travel because I really get to appreciate the natural beauty that the world has to offer. Aisha and Kevin were also wedded on Canada Day in Grenada and their family traveled from Canada, Antigua, and Tobago to celebrate with the couple on their special day.
The weather kept us on our toes and it did rain towards the end of the ceremony, but it cleared up just in time for portraits of the family and bridal party. The ceremony was large but intimate and the family support was tangible; I could sense the love in every shot. It helped that the venue was only a two minute drive from the resort, and the wedding took place over the span of three days where the first day was meet and greet with the family, day two was the beautiful wedding, and day three was the catamaran cruise at sunset where everyone wore their red and whites for Canada Day.
A little about the pair: The bride, Aisha, is Canadian Antiguan; the groom, Kevin, is from Tobago and have a son. This wedding was also featured on Munaluchi Bridal Magazine’s Website featuring a Q+A wit the couple. Please continue reading to see how the day went in addition to the answers they shared. Enjoy!
We first met at a destination wedding in Antigua in 2009. Kevin’s cousin was marrying my best friend. He was the best man and I was the maid of honor.
For the proposal, Kevin flew to Antigua from Tobago to spend Christmas with our 4yr old son and the rest of my family. We were talking about marriage for a while so I knew it was gonna happen sooner or later. So on Christmas morning after our son finished opening his gifts he brought me a small ring box and said it’s for you, daddy said open it. When I opened it, instead of the ring I was anticipating, it was a pair of beautiful hibiscus earrings. I was a little disappointed but I did love the earrings. Then Kevin handed me another small jewelry box with a big smile on his face. When I opened the second box my heart dropped inside, it was a pair of tear drop earrings – no ring. So the rest of the day went well, had a great day with my family, and after dinner we were going on a boat ride with some of my cousins. As we were getting dressed to go, Kevin suggested I wear one of my new earrings. I asked him to grab one of them from off the dresser. He brought one of the boxes to me and when I opened it – it was an engagement ring!
Being that both of our families are from the Caribbean we incorporated that culture in the food we had, consisting of traditional sweets and an amazing black cake.
One of the best memories from the wedding was when an award winning local Soca artiste, Otis, gave us a impromptus performance during our reception.
Remember it’s your day! Not you mother’s, friends’ or any other family members’, do what makes you happy!
