If you’ve seen me working behind the scenes or in my Instagram stories, then you’ve seen my camera straps. I get so many compliments and questions about them, so today I want to share more.
HoldFast Gear is the company that created my double camera harness called the Skinny MoneyMaker! The name is absolutely accurate. As a wedding photographer, I also happen to be apart of the HoldFast family as one of their brand ambassadors! I’m honored to be apart of such an amazing brand.
I switched over to HoldFast about 2 years ago because I didn’t have straps that felt comfortable over a full wedding day. Over the past 10 years, I’ve used the neck straps that came with my cameras, I’ve also used other cross body straps and double straps. I felt restricted and uncomfortable after 10 to 12 hours on my feet working a wedding. Lower back pain isn’t fun and I just needed something that would keep me from physically burning out at the end of the wedding season.
Since the beginning of 2019, I’ve used the Skinny Money Maker in black bridle leather. I wear black a lot and so it seemed fitting to match my outfits. In terms of the size, I’m 5-7 and their sizing guide recommends that if you’re 5-7 and shorter, you should wear a small. I chose to size up to Medium, as the site suggests, if you have a broad build. I have broad shoulders, so I ordered medium and it really fits me well.
Before I got the Skinny MoneyMaker, I used and adored my camera swagg straps. They are similar to the MoneyMaker, but they are made of a non-leather material.
HoldFast has created something unique that makes photographers feel professional and stylish. Everything Hold Fast Gear creates is crafted and assembled by hand in Oklahoma and all products are made of 100% leather making them durable and stylish! I travel all over the place with them. I was in St. Kitts. Big Sur, and Colorado recently. Each trip included some hiking and climbing, which I did with ease with my cameras by my side.
The best part is once you hook the cameras onto the D-rings and the safety straps, they’re secure, they’re not going anywhere and the weight of my cameras are distributed evenly on the sides of my body. This allows me to have my hands free to help my bride fix her dress or too climb up and do different things on a wedding day or at a photo session.
For weddings in particular, moments happen really quickly, there’s no redos on a wedding day. It is so important to act quickly to capture those special moments for my clients. My camera straps allow me to have two cameras by my side, with different lenses on each camera body. During a wedding ceremony for example, I like to have a zoom lens and a prime lens on me at all times. I don’t have much time to switch lenses and I don’t have to because I have access to both. Also, I’m able to hook my keys to the straps and have a good time shooting on the dance floor at the reception!
